United World College Costa Rica (2018-2020)

"Attending the United World College in Costa Rica was an educational experience like no other. Being part of such a diverse community, I was exposed to a plethora of critical perspectives. At UWCCR, evaluating the limitations of the neorealist doctrine in international relations or discussing patriarchal patterns in society over dinner is common rather than the exception; students and faculty alike are eager to learn from each other. In addition to living closely together with students hailing from more than 70 countries, I was fortunate to be welcomed into the Costa Rican culture, where 'Mi casa es su casa' is an idiom that is very much carried out. Enthusiastically introducing me to all the facets of the 'Tico culture', my wonderful host family welcomed me with open arms. I love reminiscing about how we used to chitter-chatter about the cultural differences between Belgium and Costa Rica during our 'Cafecito' or attend events of the African diaspora. Ranging from vivid classroom discussions to volunteering at Sistema de Formación Artística para la Inclusión Social in San José, my UWCCR adventures were ever-intriguing."
